World Intellectual Property Day, celebrated every year on April 26th, is an international campaign created by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Its purpose? To raise awareness about the importance of intellectual property (IP) and how it empowers everyday people to protect their creations—from inventions and designs to music, writing, and more.
Each year, WIPO selects a new theme to highlight different aspects of IP. For 2025, the theme is “IP and Music: Feel the Beat of Innovation.” This year’s focus is all about celebrating how IP fuels the creativity, talent, and business behind music.

Celebrating IP in Buffalo: Come Join Us!
To celebrate this year’s theme, I’m hosting a casual event in Buffalo on April 26th at Duende, from 4 to 6 p.m., and you’re invited! A good friend of mine—an amazing drummer—is bringing his band, The Wasmopolitans, to perform live.
This won’t be a formal lecture or seminar. It’s a relaxed gathering—a chance to enjoy good music, connect with others, and chat about how intellectual property touches everything we do.
